Abortion & Euthanasia

This post will just be a quick word on the two highly debated issues floating around our society today; euthanasia and abortion.

I will not share whether or not I am for or against the use of either medical interventions – as I do not want this to take away from the message in which this is meant to deliver and turn into a debate of whether either action is “right” or “wrong”.

I am fighting, and will continue to fight for, the right for people to make their own decisions, and not have this impeded by restrictions and regulations based upon the disagreeance of another. Whether you want to have an abortion or be euthanised has nothing to do with me – your womb, and your decision regarding care for your chronic condition has nothing to do with me… with anyone but you and your care team.

Who is anyone to deny another of the options, purely because they wouldn’t get it done themselves? Just because they are available to you, does not mean that you need to choose them. But, just because you would not choose abortion or euthanasia does not mean that there shouldn’t be a law allowing others to do so.

And if anyone has a fear that allowing one, or both, into our society will cause a rise in un-necessary deaths in New Zealand – please educate yourself first. You do not just go to your doctor and ask to be euthanised and that be the end of it, there are a number of complex hoops and several opinions and categories that need to be met and satisfied before the process can even be considered. And as for abortion; four words – my womb, my rules. That decision will be made based upon my circumstances, and will concern any parties in which I wish to involve.

These decisions are hard enough to make by a person, so let us please not make it any harder.

Ending comment that you take from this? These laws are not about what is right or wrong, it is about the right for people to make decisions about themselves, without other’s personal or religious beliefs dictating such decisions.

Have a great morning, day, noon, or night world.
