I have enlisted the help of a lovely lady – let’s call her E – to give me the extra guidance and helping hand that I, alone, cannot give myself. E is the owner operator of her own Natural Health and Wellness Clinic. She has an amazing variety of services she provides, including: acupuncture, cranio-sacral therapy, metaphysical/ medical intuitive, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Reiki… it goes on.
I went into my appointment with an open mind, not having any expectations, and very eager to hear what E would recommend to help my situation. I walked in, and was immediately comfortable – a feat that it very hard to achieve in someone with severe anxiety who hates new and unknown places. We sat down, and I was so relieved when she opened her mouth – she was honest, to the point, and didn’t see airy-fairy like I know some providers are. Immediately, I knew we would get along and that I was in the right place.
I prefaced her with the plethora of my current mental and bodily woes – the anxiety, depression, and 9-year amenorrhoea (secondary to my Anorexia), alongside the back and neck pains, and bone-aches I experience on the regular. We decided to address facets of my struggles, rather than sprinkle a bit of help across it all.
We had a good korero at the beginning, just establishing a good relationship and trust in each other; then it was shoes off and on the table for some cranio-sacral therapy. E was able to assess my liver and kidney function, knew my body was under high levels of chronic and enduring stress, and found my stomach had become so detached to the rest of my body – check, check, and more checks.
E knew her shit.
She then went onto talking about past lives and their impact on my current health – something that I had not given much thought to over the legitimacy of it and whether I believed in it. At this point in time, I am open to pretty much anything if it could offer the ability to continue my healing process. E continued to state that she was concerned about the intensity of impact my past lives is having on me, so has enlisted the help of her mother – also in the holistic healing scene – to provide some distance healing for no extra cost. I was pretty chuffed.
We moved onto acupuncture, specifically targeting the stimulation of my liver, kidneys, and nervous system. I had never received it before, but I can safely say that you absolutely do not feel a single thing. E placed points below each knee, at the beginning of my big toes, and one smack bang in between my lower sternum and belly button. We kept them in for ~15 minutes, while encouraging deep, chest breathing with a focus on relaxing and sinking into the bed I lay on. The acupuncture was easy, the relaxation aspect? That was bloody hard.
Anyhow – we got to the end of it, and back on went the shoes, socks and jersey. E and I sat down and devised a plan of where to go and how we are going to work together; and so begins my #holistichealingseries!
We decided upon three actions to add into my daily routine, now please note this is specific to me and my needs, and should not be taken up by others who have not had a consult with a similar holistic health professional:
Inclusion of a liquid Vitamin B supplement, Max Stress B – having a vegetarian/vegan diet, and being under chronic stress and anxiety, the reason for this one is self-explanatory and in the name of the product
Adding in MSM Powder – Methylsulfonlymethane is great for the liver, joint aches and muscle pains, reducing inflammation, and boosting immunity I’m starting with a small quantity of the powder, mixed in with water, and will gradually increase my daily dosage
Starting my morning routine off with a cup of celery juice – this is not in accordance with the #diettrend that we are seeing taking off in our culture. No. This is for my liver, a great anti-viral (especially with a compromised immune system and during the Winter months), and is a great source of Hydrochloric Acid. I am not claiming that this juice will give me a slim tummy, or make me drop x amount of weight – this is for my inner health
There you go! I am apprehensive, nervous, but excited at what these changes would bring to my health. Will it be revolutionary? Will it be a complete waste of my money? Will it make me worse?
We shall find out together! This series will hopefully be a monthly or bi-monthly post; so stay tuned for how all of this goes down, and to see what the next appointment holds!
